Faulting application “svchost exe”

So I had been getting this problem everytime after my computer is turned on for 2-5 minutes. And it made me mad that this problem made me unconnected to internet. The problem came after I left my computer running and when I came back I couldn’t view any webpages. I was disconnected from IRC, MSN, Yahoo, everything that got to do something with internet. I restarted it and my computer was okay for first 2-5 minutes but then the message “Faulting application svchost.exe, version 5.1.2600.2180, faulting module netapi32.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0×0000a3c0.”

I checked my events log and what i got was something like this:

0000: 41 70 70 6c 69 63 61 74
0008: 69 6f 6e 20 46 61 69 6c

Application Failure svchost.exe 5.1.2600.2180 in netapi32.dll 5.1.2600.2180 at offset 0000a3c0

When I went to bring up the status of the connection from the taskbar by double clicking the icon, it would flash up and disappear. I was forced to restart my computer to get back online. But then, again, it only connect me for 2-5 minutes and then the shitty error message popped up again disconnecting my internet connection and I was back to where I were. This errors kept happening with msg faulting netapi32.dll and svchost.exe.

This is what was showed up:

EventType : BEX P1 : svchost.exe P2 : 5.1.2600.2180 P3 : 41107ed6

I was utterly desperate and I use my friend’s computer to search for something like this and you know what. I met several ppl that got the same error and it all started on saturday, 9 september 2006. This could be a new virus that makes you become really2 frustated. My antivirus didn’t seem to be working. I think it didn’t detect this virus. Some ppl got this error and went to format their computer, but the shitty error keep coming and coming. Some of them had ICS enabled on their computer.

Since then, there are many ppl got this error and it numbers keep increasing everyday. I decided to write this entry for the sake of those ppl who want to get their computer back to normal. All you’ve got to do is to close port 135 and 445. So here’s what you’ve got to do:

How to close port 445

Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) by clicking Start menu, and then click the Run icon.
In the small box that Opens, type: regedit then click the OK button.
The Registry Editor will now have opened…
Locate the following key in the registry:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Param eters
In the right-hand side of the window find an option called TransportBindName.
Double click that value, and then delete the default value, thus giving it a blank value.

How to close port 135

The you must now navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\OLE
You will see there is a String Value called: EnableDCOM
Set the value to: N (it should currently be Y)
Close the Registry Editor.
Shutdown and Restart your computer.

ps: Please spread this link to your friends who got the same error and help them to fix svchost.exe error.
