first A little toast to you all, on my behalf of getting into my school of managament! in order to share this joy i share with you
okay... let me start off by saying most paid subcriptions can probably beat the following, but these are almost as good! these are not trial versions or a stripped down version of something, where some of the features are locked, these are 100% what you see is what you get!
Avira AntiVir version 7.03.01.53 Classic (*************************Editor's Pick*************************)
virus.gr* detection rating: 95.08% *virus.gr is a online community dedicated to security.
this can be compared to the utorrent of this field, its lighting fast and has a reasonably small size. but the complete scan is slow like the others. it also intergrates antimalware so its like killin 2 blokes with one stone.

McAfee® VirusScan Plus – Special edition from AOL
(upgraded version of Active Virus Shield by AOL version 6.0.0.308)
virus.gr detection rating: 99.13%
I know AOL programs might not be in high regard with the aol browser or even the instant messenger, but you gotta trust me on this one, it is one of the only things they did properly

AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition
virus.gr detection rating: N/A
AVG Anti-Malware uses the exact same engine as AVG Antivirus free edition plus the Ewido scan engine, so this free version ditto like the paid only without the Ewido scan so its still pretty good.
The free edition did win several best software awards, so this is pretty much justified

if you are not satisfied with the above choices here are some more which still do a decent job:
BitDefender Free Edition 10: simple, sluggish, lacking internet security
http://www.bitdefender.com/PRODUCT-1...dition-v7.html
avast! 4 Home Edition: available in many languages, jus remember to register
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
i also recommend the avast! Virus Cleaner if you are going to download avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/down_cleaner.html
ClamWin: by the open source community includes source code for editing
http://www.clamwin.com/
ArcaMicroScan: this is the actual utorrent in the field! i was lying earlier=P

notice how i did not link to download.com for those free downloads, though it acts like a database of all kinds of downloadable goodies, it does not update keeps its library updated to whats available on the developer's website. umm same goes for softpedia.com, ignore thier "Updated one minute ago" mission statement
